Computing Skills

A thorough knowledge of many applications and languages, including:

Web Development. 5 years' experience in developing accessible, standards-compliant and stylish Web content using PHP, MySQL, XML, ActionScript, JavaScript, (X)HTML and CSS. Comprehensive knowledge of frameworks such as CakePHP and jQuery. Thorough knowledge of principles such as object-oriented programming and test-driven development.

Computer Administration. Full grasp of workflows on Linux- and Windows-based systems. Solid command-line knowledge. Experience with git, cron, rsync and similar utilities. Ability to administer Apache, PHP, MySQL and related services. Good knowledge of virtual computing platforms such as Amazon EC2.

Nature of Work: Back End Developer, SHOWstudio.
Description: Writing code to power the SHOWstudio website and related projects. Maintaining legacy code and managing the transition to a redeveloped, CakePHP-powered website. Building and managing virtual and dedicated servers.

May 2009 - July 2009.

Nature of Work: CakePHP Developer, Moonrocket Interactive.
Description: Building and maintaining web applications for various corporate clients.

2006 - Present.

Nature of Work: Freelance Web Developer.
Description: This role focusses on the completion of web development projects, usually for corporate clients. The ability to manage all aspects of design and production is vital, and a wide range of technical and creative skills is called upon. Accountability for deadlines, the production of high-quality work and maintenance of solid client care are notable and rewarding aspects of this work.

December 2006 - June 2007.

Nature of Work: PHP Developer, Abraxor.
Description: This postition gave sole responsibility for the development of a large corporate website in CakePHP. It also involved the development and maintenance of various web-based corporate systems, such as those used by the World Gold Council.
