What's a TLD?

TLD stands for top-level domain, and describes the end part of a web address. For example, the TLD for http://google.com is .com and the TLD for http://yahoo.co.uk is .co.uk.

A wide range of TLDs is available, some generic (e.g. .com, .biz) and some geographic (e.g. Italy's .it, the United Kingdom's .co.uk).
